U.S. government order imposing a 50% tariff on hundreds of products containing steel and aluminum components imported into the United States, effective August 18, 2025

The U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), is adding 407 Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) codes to the list of products now classified as steel or aluminum derivative products. For these products, tariffs on steel and aluminum under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 will apply to the steel and aluminum content.

This order broadens the list of goods subject to a 50% tariff (25% on imports from the United Kingdom).

The tariff schedule now covers a wide range of products not previously considered steel or aluminum derivatives, including trailers, auto parts, and electrical appliances.

Please note that the tariff, effective August 18, 2025, does not exempt goods already in transit to the United States.
